Show your support for our finalists, and have the opportunity to meet Claire Buffie- Miss New York 2010, Alison Stroming- Miss New York's Outstanding Teen 2010, Christina Moore- Miss Brooklyn 2011, Jackie Holmes- Miss Manhattan 2010 and Keelie A. Sheridan- Miss Greater NYC 2010!

We officially have 16 semi-finalists, and pre-judging has begun to determine which 10 individuals will be selected as finalists in the fields of INDEPENDENCE, MASTERY, TALENT, GROWTH, COMMUNITY, FELLOWSHIP, WELLNESS, SPIRIT, LEADERSHIP AND CITIZENSHIP. 

Join us on Sunday, October 24th from 3-5p at Block Institute as we announce the finalists for the title of the 2011 Brightest Star!

We're also extremely pleased to announce that the extraordinarily talented band FLAME will be performing at our final gala on Saturday, January 29th! Mark your calendars- it's sure to be a memorable and exciting evening!

2010/ 2011 Brightest Star Awards

Last fall, Block Institute held its first annual Brightest Star Competition. Through various services and programs, Block Institute serves individuals of all ages with disabilities. The Brightest Star Program is a competition designed to recognize the outstanding individuals (both male and female) in Block Institute's community who exemplify the following categories:

Spirit, Leadership, Wellness, Talent, Independence, Mastery,

Fellowship, Citizenship, Growth, Community

The 2009 competition was a success, and Calvin Green was selected amongst the field of 10 very qualified finalists to represent Block Institute and the Brightest Star Program. 

Applications for the 2010 Brightest Star Competition will be accepted beginning on August 1st, and the deadline for entries will be September 17th. Preliminary judging will then take place, narrowing the field to ten contestants- one for each attribute listed above. The finalists will be announced on Saturday October 24th, and the final selection gala will be held on Saturday, January 29th, 2011.
